We asked candidates for Dublin Bay South would they 'actively assist' us in our 3 asks from a new government and with answers in hand our membership could take it into account in their voting on Friday 29th.
Candidates were given ample time to revert to us. Our 3 asks were:
1. Floodlit training/playing surfaces are badly needed - We suggest flood lighting the GAA Pitch in ETB/VEC Terenure and opening it up for night time usage. We have been pursuing this for some time to no avail. We intend to keep trying.
2. Clubhouse / multi function room facilities needed - We suggest that this could be provided in ETB/VEC Terenure perhaps.
3. Floodlit All weather training/playing surfaces - We suggest Pitch 3 in Bushy be floodlit (the pitch beside the floodlit all weather tennis , paddle and basketball courts ). If courts can be lit, why not a pitch.
(Bushy & ETB VEC are both in Dublin Bay South Constituency)
Replies were received from and summarised as follows:
Chris Andrews ( Sinn Fein )- Confirmed his intention to actively assist us.
Eoin Hayes ( Social Democrats ) - Confirmed his intention to support and pointed to a current motion he raised seeking a conference on outdoor sports and leisure facilities in South City to chart a strategy to meet the needs of the south city.
Ivana Bacik ( Labour) - Confirmed her intention to assist and in her comprehensive reply demonstrated a very clear understanding of the issues through her involvement with teams in this area.
James Geoghegan ( Fine Gael )- Confirmed his intention to actively assist us & indeed in his current role has made enquiries already of DCC Head of Parks who in turn has contacted CDETB on the topic.
Jim O'Callaghan ( Fianna Fail ) - Confirmed his intention to actively assist us.
No Replies from:
Alan Healy - Aontu
Emma Blain - Fine Gael
Hazel Chu -Green Party
Kate O'Connell - Independent
We did not ask every candidate - we simply focused on those individuals or parties who have secured more than 3% of 1st Preference votes in previous elections in this constituency.
